The Nutcracker is a Montreal holiday tradition. Just like you, Les Grands Ballets cares about the well-being of the most vulnerable families and children. That’s why we created The Nutcracker Fund.
Thanks to the invaluable support of our partners and donors, this educational program has been providing a complete immersion into the world of The Nutcracker for over 25 years:
Aiming to democratize ballet, and foster an interest in the arts, the youth program offers children an inclusive access to the arts with a variety of initiatives designed to foster their artistic awakening in a playful and creative way.
This program targets young people in vulnerable situations, including children who:
The Fund also supports the annual refurbishment of sets and costumes for The Nutcracker, which has been an annual fixture for 60 years!
Les Grands Ballets strives to extend access to ballet to as many people as possible, and will offer on December 17, 2024, a complete performance of The Nutcracker to 2,800 young people, including :
Throughout the fall, Une école montréalaise pour tous, a Ministère de l'Éducation initiative designed to promote equity and inclusion, will be offering nearly 250 dance and visual arts workshops in around 60 classes from low-income neighbourhoods on the island of Montreal. It makes for a fun, interactive and creative introduction to the world of ballet and The Nutcracker:
What a great way to encourage artistic awakening in our young people while boosting their self-esteem and discouraging dropping out of school.
Les Grands Ballets dancers will also pay visits to schools outside the island of Montreal, community organizations and pediatric health facilities selected by our partners and donors. It's a magical opportunity for children to ask the dancers about their daily lives, their careers and their roles in The Nutcracker. The dancers take the opportunity to perform a few dance moves and show them some of the show's props.
Did you know that The Nutcracker is Canada’s longest-running production on the same stage? The Nutcracker Fund supports the annual refurbishment of costumes and sets for the show, celebrating its 60th anniversary this year!
Make a tangible difference to the cause and help perpetuate this educational program by donating towards the cost of its activities.
